Thank you for visiting Furkids! Furkids rescues hundreds of homeless animals each year that are in need of caring, lifelong homes. Most of our dogs are listed on-line. We do not hold adoption days to the public. Meetings with our dogs are by appointment only with a pre-approved adoption application.
The first step towards adopting is to submit an adoption application on-line. Once you have submitted an adoption application, our volunteer staff will contact you within 72 hours.  Furkids would like to thank Beth Erwin for sponsoring Petey, in memory of Hershey, who was the beloved canine companion of Stephanie and Robby Erwin. Date of birth: 12/22/2008. Petey is a very lucky doggie indeed! One of our volunteers spotted him trotting along and decided that he definitely needed a loving home. Petey is very smart and learns quickly. Gentle and sweet, this 50 pound dog is affectionate and likes being around people. Petey is playful and gets along well with other dogs. Petey is an active dog and needs regular exercise. He would do best with a fenced yard or an active person willing to take him on walks and to the dog park. He is good around the shelter cats, showing curiosity at times or not much interest at all.  Furkids would like to thank Alex Fessenden for sponsoring Mr. Bojangles this month, in memory of Big Jim. Date of birth: 7/15/2006. Bojangles is a handsome boxer mix. He is a wonderful dog who was given up by his owners when they no longer had time for him. He gets along well with other dogs and cats, and is respectful toward young children. He is well mannered in any social setting, obeys basic commands and is great on leash. He is energetic and would make a good jogging companion. He loves going on walks and exploring his environment. He rides calmly in the car and is housebroken. Bojangles is very sweet, gentle and affectionate. He is happiest spending time with the family, whether indoors or out. He is good with kids and loves to hang out with the family. He's always happy to join you for a car ride. Dallas is energetic and enjoys regular exercise, but also settles down easily. One of his favorite pastimes is fetching a ball and he loves playing with toys. Dallas gets along well with cats and other dogs and would like having a playmate. He would also do well with play dates or trips to the dog park. He is perfectly crate trained. He will sit and stay on command and is not a barker.  Date of birth: 4/1/2008. Cuatro is a handsome flat-coated retriever mix, around 40-50 lbs, who is looking for his forever home. He is really laid back and sweet, and just wants to cuddle quietly and be petted. Cuatro walks well on a leash, and seems to prefer walking through the neighborhood rather than on trails. He adores car rides and is very quiet in the car. Cuatro gets along extremely well with other dogs and cats, and likes hanging out at the dog park, though he is not a "runner." He really NEEDS a fenced yard to play in - the only times we really see him light up and wag his tail are when he is out playing. He would enjoy some well-adjusted doggie company, but it is not essential. Cuatro’s new favorite activity is chasing squirrels in the yard and barking at birds. He ignores toys, but loves pig ears, bones, and other chew treats. Cuatro is fine eating around the other dogs (no stealing or aggressive behavior). He is housebroken and does not need to be crated – a doggie blanket on the floor seems to be just fine. He needs someone who would be patient and continue to help him be more social. Cuatro is a gentle dog and would do best with older children.

 DOB: February 2009. Ellie is a sweet pup looking for her forever home. She is the daughter of Sammie (10355). These girls are the sweetest, most affectionate dogs I have ever met. They are cuddlers and want to sleep right up on you.

 Furkids would like to thank Samantha Shelton for sponsoring Hartman this month, in loving memory of our dear friend, Sandy Hartman. Date of birth: 7/16/2009. Hartman (on right) was found in the street on a rainy, cold day. He was freezing, starving, scared. In the short time he has been in our care, he is thriving and putting on weight. He is a very sweet, eager to please, energetic young dog. Hartman enjoys his daily walks and being outside with the family. He will stay near by, but will occasionally follow the neighborhood kids down the street to play. Hartman is currently being fostered in a house with children, cats and dogs. He gets along well with everyone but also makes a great watch dog. Hartman desperately wants another dog of his energy level to play with. He hates to be left alone. Hartman will need a home where he either has a person home all day or he has an animal companion of similar nature. I was abandoned and am so thankful to be in a safe, comfortable place. I am full of energy and need daily exercise – I love to play outside and enjoy walks. I would do best with a fenced yard and another dog to play with on a regular basis. I have a soft coat and don’t even mind bath time! I have learned not to jump on visitors and to stay off the furniture. I am housebroken and, even though I’ve had every opportunity to get in the trash, I have not touched it at all.
